Four Year term 2019-2023 Term limited
I was raised, along with my brother Bill Gern, in Gunnison from the time I was a baby. My dad was a Professor at WSC and my mom became a middle school Language Arts teacher.
I attended Gunnison schools from K to graduation from GHS. I am grateful for those early experiences provided me through my education and community. I then earned a BA degree in Elementary Education and Art from Western in 1968. I became an art teacher at Ruland Middle School in 1970-1973. I left the classroom for a time and returned to work for the Gunnison School District as a Special Ed Aide in 1979 and in 1984 I returned to the Middle School art classroom. I went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Western in Education with an emphasis in art in 1987. I remained at the Middle School for the remainder of my teaching career until my retirement in 2006.
I served my fellow teachers as GCEA President and in other offices, as well as CEA on state level committees.
Following my retirement, I worked at Tenderfoot Daycare Center and completely retired in December 2015. It has been my pleasure to serve my community as a member of the Board of Education since November of 2015.
